Milkweeds are herbaceous perennials celebrated for their ability to attract swarms of pollinators, including butterflies, moths, bees and wasps. More famously, milkweed is the food plant of the monarch butterfly larva. The flowers of these plants can be white, pink or orange depending on the variety. This sweater design depicts the milkweed plant that is native to Alabama—often referred to as butterfly weed. In the humid summers of the South, these orange flowers can be seen dotting patches of brush and skirting the pine and deciduous forests. They are always a pleasing sight!

Milkweed by Jamie Hoffman of Knitosophy is a snug sweater with a beautiful botanical design all around the yoke. We love the original light fingering sample created in Soka’pii by The Farmer’s Daughter Fibers, and we have created original bundles in the sample colourways.

Milkweed is a pullover design featuring a stranded colorwork yoke using light fingering or fingering weight yarn. The construction is entirely top down and in the round. Choose from a rolled edge for the neckband and cuffs or a simple ribbed style. The pattern also includes optional side seams and waist shaping.

- Ribbing: Size US 2/2.75 mm circulars, 16 in/40 cm for neckband and 32 in/80 cm or longer for hem and cuffs; DPNs or small circumference circulars if not using magic loop for cuffs
- Main: Size US 4/3.5 mm circulars, 24 in/60 cm for the upper yoke and 32 in/80 cm or longer for the yoke, body and sleeves; DPNs or small circumference circulars if not using magic loop for sleeves
