Sample Spotlight: Cesium by Sachiko Burgin

Inspired by Sachiko’s new design publication with her twin sister Kiyomi Burgin, we’re revisiting one of our favourite cosy knit samples: Cesium.

We first came across Sachiko’s work when she first published the Cesium sweater pattern in Issue 19 of Pom Pom Quarterly, knitted in Mountain Mohair by Green Mountain Spinnery.

We adore the cool blue colour of ‘Ice Blue’ in the original sample, but chose the bright white ‘Edelweiss’ for our own sample using our stock of Mountain Mohair.

The fresh colour pairs perfectly with any outfit, (who doesn’t love a staple white jumper?!), but with a flattering cable design across the sleeves and torso for an extra special piece to add to your wardrobe. You can even combine it with other knits, like we did with our Shift cowl by Drea Renee Knits in Spincycle’s Dyed in the Wool:

Mountain Mohair is a gorgeous 70% Wool and 30% Yearling Mohair blend. This 10-ply premium yarn was one of the first we ever stocked, and we are still just in love many years on! It is tightly wound in the skein but it softens and blooms beautifully when washed. Not just beautiful in hue – the fabric it creates is sturdy but light and will withstand years of washing and wear.

With Pom Pom Press’ new release of Moon and Turtle: Knitting Patterns with Variations, we see a whole new side to the Cesium with it reimagined as a cosy cardigan! We are thrilled to see the evolution of this fabulous design, and excited to see it reach the hands of new knitters 5 years later.

The pattern comes with adjustable measurements to suit your body just how you like it. Make sure to check out the full yardage specification to make sure you order enough skeins for your needs!

Just as before, the Burgin’s opted for the light yet reliable Mountain Mohair for the cardigan form in orange-brown ‘Spice’ and purple ‘Alpenglo’, plus a new sweater sample in ‘Maritime’. We have 15 colourways to choose from, so make sure to check out our full collection to get inspired…

Pre-order the book below for its release date on 16th August!
